My brother and I were at the Astros game today. Wandy Rodriguez on the mound. Gave up 5 runs. NONE OF WHICH WERE EARNED. His ERA for the game stayed at 0.00. He gets the loss. St. Louis takes the series—again. That’s what we call NOT backing a pitcher up.
LSU’s uniforms look terrible today against UC-Irvine:
Everyone loves the ’80s, especially those of us who can claim to have been born in them. Actually, I take that back. Everyone loves the ’80s looking in their rear view mirror. (I’m not so sure leggings are still awesome. But looking at leggings back then? Awesome.) So with that in mind, the best of the best worst.
5. Aha — “Take on Me”
Now while most ’80s music videos are skrate bad, this one is actually not too bad. It’s just so iconic. So is the song. It’s a must know. That’s the end of that. I especially like the Family Guy parody of it.
So last summer my buddy Justin and I were floating around in his pool on a Pool Day and, he being from Colorado, was/is a huge Denver Broncos fan. We had spent a good part of the day talking crap to each other about the fantasy football draft (which we performed at said pool as well) and our discussion on whose team was better evolved into who the better real life teams were. About this time Denver had made some pretty good off-season trades to stack their defense and Justin was feeling all great about them. Then he grew some balls and decided to tell me that they were going to win the Super Bowl.
I almost choked on my beer. There was NO WAY the Broncos were going to win the Super Bowl. Just no way. He told me I could pick ANY team—any other team—and would bet me $50 that the Broncos would win the Super Bowl. If my team won, I got the coin. If the Broncos won, he got it.
Sports Illustrated has released the Top 50 American citizen athletes who made the most money the past year. (This means people like Yao Ming and Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker are out.) I was listening to the radio when the guys (John and Lance, Sean and John—geniuses) over at 1560 The Game got a hold of it. All of us being from Houston, we shared some delight in the article for a number of reasons which I will recount here. (You can also check out Lance Zierlein’s blog.)
First off, it’s always fun to guess at the top 3. Number one is pretty easy, number two is not, number three most people probably think should be at number two. Anyway, got your ideas? OK. Read on. (There are also the mind-numbing crazy ones coming up, as well.)
I’m not kidding about that title, either. “Inspiration”—where to get it, where it comes from, where people go to find it—it’s an eternal question. How do you effectively end creative block? Books are written on it all the time. It’s the subject of tons of blog posts. I even wrote about it recently, too. And while that was truly an inspirational story, it’s not the most inspirational story I’ve ever heard.
That actually comes from Ron Howard, uber-producer of multi-million dollar films like The Da Vinci Code, the 24 mini-series with everyone’s favorite Jack Bauer, and A Beautiful Mind. He always works with Brian Grazer. He’s an actor, too.
Anyway, the story is about when Apollo 13 came out. He knew the movie they made was a good one, but as it turned out, got really good reviews and made more money than they’d ever expected. So he felt like he won twice (good movie, the public actually agreeing). And then when the Academy Award nominations came out and it had been nominated for Best Picture, he kind of freaked out a little bit. They had won twice, and now they could actually lose. He began to get real worked up about winning.
So you may notice a mild new look around here. I’ve been working on streamlining the look of the site for awhile now, wanting to make sure it was lean. Without getting all to the point where you have no clue what I’m saying and probably for the most part don’t care, there was a whole lot of extra fluff on the back end of this site I wanted to get rid of. So I did. Hence the new look.
Additionally, I may have missed something in the switch over to the lean look. So if you see something that looks wrong or out of place—it probably is. Do me the favor of letting me know! You can use the contact form or if you know me personally, tell me or call me.
Anyway, I’m working on a new Top 5 for this week so look for that coming up soon. In the mean time, enjoy this awesome article on ESPN about where I work.
