Firefox 3 released today

Firefox 3

For anyone who cares, Firefox 3 is being released today. In a cool promo attempt, they’re attempting to get into the Guinness Book of World Records by having it be the Most Downloaded Software in 24 Hours. I think that’s pretty brilliant. Viral stuff goes a long way for marketing, and most people who would further this marketing scheme love the viral stuff.

The thing is, I love Firefox and I can’t wait to try out version 3. I also love Thunderbird, the same open-source community’s e-mail client (a competitor of Outlook), and I hated that I had to switch over to Microsoft. (This is a fairly short reason: Thunderbird doesn’t sync with my iPhone. Sucks. I hate Outlook. Also, random note, apparently first generation iPhone’s are going for a good amount on Craigslist because they’re easier to hack. My friend sold one for $350 which is well over the cost to just go buy a new one and have some coin left over.)

ANYWAY, go pledge and download Firefox 3!

Please note: As of June 17 at 1 p.m. CST, the sites may appear to be broken but they’re NOT. Keep hitting refresh. The servers are getting pounded in the attempt to set the world record.

Sports side note: After an utterly embarrassing loss to worst-seeded Fresno St. this weekend, they play LSU today in an elimination game in the College World Series. And of course, it’s right during work (1 p.m. CST). Looks like I’ll be visiting the conference room. ALSO, France plays Italy in an elimination match in Euro 2008. Should also be an incredible game.
