Full Throttle updates its energy drink can

1 April 2008 by David in Redesigned

Full Throttle has gotten in on the re-design game and has updated its look. They have re-done their “original” flavor can (the one you probably know; it comes in black).

A disclaimer: I’m an addict when it comes to energy drinks, so I got this post on here as soon as I could. I attempt to try every single energy drink known to man, and I challenge you to find one I haven’t heard of or tried. If you win, I will do my best to try it ASAP.

New Look

New Front

The front logo now has way less clutter behind it, possibly to make the brand a little more recognizable:

And wouldn’t you know it, the logo is also larger.

Old Front

Compare (sorry for the bad picture):

New Back

I guess on the back they just wanted to prove to you how AWESOME its Full Throttle Blend is:

Nowhere else on the can (besides here) does it have the yellow and red colors repeated other than on the logo. Also, like I mentioned earlier, here you can see the stripped down logo (in this case, it would be called a “mark”, oftentimes a simpler, stamp-like version of a logo). I bet this is the reason they trimmed down the front logo, anyway.

New Side

On the side they seem to really be pushing that Full Throttle blend of energy craziness:

If you can’t read it there, it says:

“The Original Full Throttle Energy Drink is packed with 3,000 mg of the Full Throttle Energy Blend and a bold citrus kick. It’s a badge that tells others to “Back off—I’m about to take it to the next level.”

Because when someone sees me drink one of these before pick-up basketball, they usually back off. Forget the fact that I’m 5′8″—I’m here to make a mess of you. And for anyone curious, unlike the new Camel cigarettes, the packaging does not dictate a change to the original taste of the flavor.

I assume all this is being done to separate it from the myriad of other flavors and brands out there, especially since the energy drink market is booming. I know they added the “Citrus Flavor” to the top so that you would know there are other flavors within the Full Throttle brand to try. I’m buying in, though, and I’m trying everything I can find.

I have to say, that’s a pretty boring prize to win if we stump you.

Well to respond to this post I just searched to find out why they did this terrible thing. I have been a loyal drinker and caffeine addict since I was 6. I was sad and slightly angry when I saw the new can. They took off all of the cool graphics, made the font bigger and the graphics they kept look fat. I don’t know whether they decided to make the font bigger for middle aged men but it seems like it. The first impression on me was they were bought out somehow and there was a new crappier and cheaper to manufacture person making them. I could have to pick a new favorite energy drink.

First of all, just wanted to say that I’m a huge fan of Full Throttle energy drink, in fact am drinking a 24 oz. right now, although I only drink the original. Compared to other energy drinks, such as Lost, or even Red Bull, I think this drink has the perfect mix of tangy and sweet flavor. (Lost is so sour, it took a bit to get used to, and I did drop Full Throttle for it a while back because they were cheaper, and for some reason, being one of the few in my SMALL town who drink energy drinks, the stores decided to stock Lost instead of Full Throttle. I fixed that very quickly.)

And just a note to Gabe. If you were a true fan of lost, you wouldn’t be so bent on their graphic choice. It is very possible that the more vectorized and less cluttered logo is easier, and yes, cheaper, to print, such as on Full Throttle merchandise, t-shirts, hats, or even bigger and better products from Coca-Cola.

Lets see you design a can and see how it sells.
